Description:
Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance found in foods and produced by our liver. It serves as a source for bile secretion and act as a modulator for the health of blood vessels. Additionally, cholesterol is used to protect nerves, construct cell tissues, and make certain hormones. It is an essential substance required in small quantities for body normal function. However, in high quantities, it can have an adverse effect on our health. [3-4]
What Is Total Cholesterol Level in blood?
Our cholesterol level is measured in milligrams per deciliter of blood (mg/dL). Three measures are used to calculate the total cholesterol level:[5]
- HDL cholesterol (HDL-C), which is considered the ‘good’ kind of cholesterol
- LDL cholesterol (LDL-C), which is considered the ‘bad’ kind of cholesterol
- Triglyceride level (TG).
Benefits of Red Yeast Rice:
- Improvement of circulation
Red yeast rice is a fermented product of rice that is cultivated with red yeast (Monascus purpureus). It has been used as a medicinal food in Chinese culture for centuries due to its ability to promote blood circulation. Extracts of red yeast rice contain several active ingredients as family of monacolin-related substances, sterols, isoflavones and monounsaturated fatty acids. Monacolin-related substances work by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which is involved in cholesterol synthesis, and by increasing the breakdown of LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream.
- Maintenance of cardiovascular health
By purifying blood, red yeast rice extract may help to maintain blood vessel and heart health.[1,11-15]
Benefits of Coenzyme Q10:
Coenzyme Q10 is a natural antioxidant found in human body cells that plays a role in delaying the aging process of cells. It has several benefits, including:[2]
- Reduction of free radicals
Coenzyme Q10 helps reduce free radicals caused by factors such as UV light exposure, passive smoking, stress, and an imbalanced diet.
- Boosting cellular metabolism
It aids in boosting cellular metabolism, which is important for overall cell function and energy production.
- Activation of cell growth
Coenzyme Q10 helps activate cell growth and maintenance, supporting healthy cell regeneration.
- Skin health
It contributes to keeping the skin youthful and delicate, potentially assisting in maintaining skin health and reducing the signs of aging.
Benefits of Nattokinase:
Nattokinase is an enzyme produced by the natto bacteria (Bacillus subtilis) through the fermentation of soybeans. As a protease, nattokinase has several benefits, including the following: [16-17,19]
- Promotion of circulation and metabolism
Nattokinase can help promote circulation and metabolism, supporting overall physiological functions.
- Improves blood flow and reduces clotting
Through a series of transformations, nattokinase activates plasmin, which promotes blood flow. This makes it widely used for maintaining cardiovascular health.
- Maintenance of respiratory system health
Studies have shown that taking nattokinase can also reduce blockage of sinus and alleviate symptoms. Nattokinase can reduce excessive mucus and phlegm production in the respiratory tract, making it beneficial for maintaining smooth breathing. It can improve the condition of the respiratory tract, reduce the frequency of symptoms, and decrease the risk of attacks.[18]
