What is Cranberry
Cranberry is rich in vitamin C and proanthocyanidins. It has natural antibacterial and antioxidant properties. It is widely used to maintain urinary tract health and alleviate symptoms of sensitive areas, such as itching and burning.
Cranberry has anti-adhesion properties. It provides an acidic environment that can reduce the ability of harmful bacteria to adhere to the urinary tract, allowing them to be naturally flushed out with urine and reducing the chance of recurrence. E. coli bacteria come from the intestines and are the most common cause of urinary tract infections. If one holds in urine or does not drink enough water, the harmful bacteria retained in the urinary tract may proliferate. This may increase the chance of urinary discomfort. Due to differences in physiological structures, women are more susceptible to infections than men, and hormonal changes are also a contributing factor.
Cranberry is also commonly made into juices, jams, and dried fruits. To balance the acidity and make them more palatable, these products often have large amounts of added sugar, which can actually impair the inherent antibacterial properties of cranberries.
In addition to taking unsweetened cranberry supplements, maintaining good personal hygiene is also important to maintain a healthy urinary system.
