Resveratrol

白藜蘆醇Resveratrol 卓營方營養百科

Resveratrol is a polyphenolic compound that was first discovered in the roots of Veratrum grandiflorum in 1939. It plays a role in plant defense mechanisms, protecting plants from UV radiation, pests, and bacteria. Resveratrol is abundant in grape peel. Dark purple or red grapes have higher levels of resveratrol compared to green grapes. Hence, red wine is a common source of resveratrol. However, alcohol is harmful to human body. Excessive intake can increase liver burden and accelerate cellular aging. Therefore, drinking red wine is not the optimal way to consume resveratrol.

Resveratrol is a potent antioxidant that protects cells from damage caused by free radicals. It activates SIRT1, promoting the repair of aging and damaged cells, stimulating cell growth and regeneration, thus exhibiting anti-aging effects. Resveratrol also offers numerous benefits to the skin, improving its quality. UV radiation from sunlight can cause photoaging of the skin, leading to issues such as skin sagging, moisture loss, accelerated formation of pigmentation spots, and wrinkles. Resveratrol can enhance the skin’s defense against UV radiation. It inhibits tyrosinase from melanin formation, maintaining bright complexion and youthful beauty.

Furthermore, resveratrol has been found to promote vasodilation, enhancing blood vessel elasticity and improving blood flow, thereby strengthening cardiovascular health.

Benefits of Resveratrol:

  • Acts as a powerful antioxidant, protecting cells.
  • Activates longevity gene, inducing cell repair
  • Improves skin conditions, maintains a youthful appearance
